Recovering from Divorce and Reclaiming Yourself: Our Workshop at Kripalu

Recovering from Divorce and Reclaiming Yourself: Our Workshop at Kripalu by Lauren BehrmanA longtime dream is coming to fruition in September, and Jeff and I could not be more excited!

In collaboration with a writing specialist, singer/songwriter, and mind-body specialist, we have designed a multi-day experiential workshop, Recovering from Divorce, Reclaiming Yourself, that will help people gain skills, open themselves to emotion (rather than being numb), and ultimately heal from divorce.

Through a combination of mental health practices, mindful movement, journalizing, yoga, and soulful music, we hope to help people move forward and rewrite their divorce narrative in a supportive and understanding environment.

Participation in this workshop can be life-changing. Divorce is one of the few stresses that can impact almost every area of your life. By rewriting your story, you can develop a newfound resilience, a profound sense of healing, and renewed stability.

Our Workshop’s Origins

In many ways, I feel as though I’ve come full circle. Some years ago, almost by happenstance, I attended a self-actualizing workshop at Kripalu called The Poetry of Self Inquiry, Write From Your Heart. I entered it with no expectations, and little did I know, that it would be a truly pivotal moment in my life.

The goal of the workshop was to explore writing exercises as a tool for self-discovery and to reframe your life story by writing it down—free of judgment and distraction. I learned to find my true, authentic voice in the world through meditation, breathing exercises, poetry readings, and writing.

There was a particular powerful meditative exercise that I recall: the workshop leader led us through a walking meditation, leaving our emotions and thoughts, and instead, noticing the changing movements of our bodies, our senses, and our lives. I found myself able to settle into that experience and learned to be present, vulnerable, and wise.

The workshop not only made a difference in my life, but also in the way that I work and help others. I have been so grateful to have the opportunity to help many people, who were once stuck and in pain, recover and reclaim themselves after divorce. My hope is that our upcoming workshop at Kripalu can impact others the way that the workshop that I took years ago impacted me.
